Downpours Don't Derail Progress in Iten!

According to Nicodemus, “It’s raining cats and dogs in Iten.”
The rains came early and hard. The blood-orange trails are flooded, as are the running tracks. This makes it difficult to train. But the Stazza’s Stable Iten Posse has managed to avoid the cats and dogs falling from the heavens and bang out solid training over the last few weeks.
The lads are preparing for the Migori 10km races on the 8th April. All four of the lads will race. This will give us an idea of how they are progressing. Like all races in Kenya, The Migori 10km races are extremely competitive. The lads will travel by matatu the day before the races and stay overnight. They have bonded as a team and do all their workouts together and most easy runs. This is excellent as working together like this will bring them along and give them a sense of belonging. This helps them get out when they're tired.
Later in the month, Hosea will compete in the Eldoret Half Marathon and Nicodemus will give it some root-toot at the Athletics Kenya track meet in Kakamega, where he’ll either run the 1500m or the 5000m.
Looking at the training, Ezra the ostrich is flying and is now pushing Richard, while Hosea is improving each week and is closing in on the lads. Hosea appears to be adjusting to the altitude and will no doubt continue to make great gains as each month passes.
It’s early days for the lads but so far, it all looks great. They are extremely grateful for the kindness shown by the supporters of the Arete Scholarship Program and they hope to show their appreciation by running well and continuing to improve.
Soon, we’ll have an update explaining how the Arete Program is continuing to develop; we’re just working our way through a range of options and all sorts of legalese :) We’ll keep you posted…
